MS Outlook is one of the most popular email clients today. If you have multiple email accounts, you can use Outlook and access all the account’s emails through this centralized location. However, situations arise when you might notice that the Outlook search indexing not working and you aren’t able to search the preferred email. While there could be multiple reasons why such issues occur, you can follow some simple troubleshooting steps to get rid of the issue and ensure continued and usually performance of the email client. What To Do If Outlook Search Indexing Not Working?

Whenever you notice that Outlook search indexing isn’t working, you will encounter the below-mentioned issues:


  • You won’t get any search results

  • Search gets completely cancelled

  • You can see your emails for a certain time

To resolve such issues including Outlook indexing slow, first, restart Outlook. Restarting Outlook often works wonders which prove to be the most effective way. Close the program completely and then relaunch it on your computer. You can see the system tray to check if Outlook is running in the background. In case the program is still active, it means that you didn’t close the program properly. To exit from Outlook permanently, simply right-click the icon and select “Exit”.



Alternatively, to resolve issues like Outlook search indexing not working or Outlook indexing slow, you can use the Task Manager to force quit the running Outlook application and relaunch it. To start with, press the “Ctrl+Shift+Esc” keys together to open the Windows Task Manager. You will notice MS Outlook in the list of running applications. All you need to do is select MS Outlook and click on the “End Task” button. Lastly, try opening Outlook again and check if the issue related to MS Outlook search indexing has been resolved.
